“What kept you?”
Eli ran to the car, prised the door open with some effort and climbed into the passenger seat panting. He turned his head to face Jonas and ignoring the question he instead said,
“He got away and he’ll warn the others. We need to get out of here quickly.”
“Where to?”
“I have an idea, but just take us somewhere we can talk for now.”
“Who are they Eli?” Jonas asked, craning his head at the little man as he manoeuvred the car east.
“They work for a man I only know as Teague,” Eli replied, but looked physically sick at the sound of the man’s name, even though it came from his own lips.
“Who is he?”
“The devil incarnate,” was Eli’s only response as they sped away from Kane’s home, the road noise because of the broken rear window filling the car.
