Olivia began to wonder whether this was some kind of lucid dream,
or whether she did have a fever which had caused a hallucination. She was about to lie down and try to go to back to sleep, dismissing the vision as imagined or the remnant of a dream, when from the corner of her eye she saw something move; a shadow in the dark. The chill that had seemingly been dispersed by the ball of light now returned. She rubbed her goose-pimpled upper arms frantically in a vain attempt to create warmth.
‘Don’t be scared,’ a whispering voice sounded out from the darkness. ‘It’s only me. Jennifer.’
